Branding your business is one of the most important things you can do for your company. Without a professional brand, you’re not going to be taken as seriously as you would otherwise. Potential customers will see the unprofessional logo and may be turned off by it. They feel this way because they believe that if you didn’t put a lot of effort into your own brand, why would you put a lot of effort into them as a customer?
Hire a Professional
I can not put enough emphasis on this point. If you are not a professional graphic designer, you need to hire one to who can provide your company with professional graphic services.
A lot of people believe that logos cost tens of thousands of dollars. This is only true with large corporations such as Nike and McDonalds.
Red Beam Industries handles logo branding for $199.00.
Use 1, 2 or 3 Colors
A common mistake with new businesses is, people generally want lots of things going on in the logo. They want zippers zipping and hammers banging and suns rising and plants growing and lots of colors!
The problem with this is, no one is going to remember you. The human mind does not remember complex things beyond a couple of minutes. This is why the most successful logos are simple and easy to identify up close and far away.
Stick to minimal colors and keep it simple for success.
What About my Website?
If you already have a website, make sure the designer is following the design flow on your site. (If your website is branded the way you want it.)
The best practice is to brand your company, then build your website. In many cases though, the opposite is true.
You will want to consider keeping your logo and website in line with each other as far as color sets and feel.
I have posted a logo example above to illustrate proper branding. When getting your logo done, you’re going to want to make sure that it looks good on dark and light backgrounds. You also want to see your logo in black and white.
